Isabel Pires

Biography:

Composer and performer of acousmatic music, has a PhD in Esthétique, Sciences et Technologies des Arts – Spécialité Musique from Paris VIII University. Teacher at Universidade Nova de Lisboa and executive coordinator of “Musical Arts: Music and Technology” Master degree. She is a CESEMs researcher and LIM (Laboratory of Computer Music) director, at the same University. Her research work is focused on the relationship between cognitive auditory perception and the physical phenomena of sound in musical contexts. She is also working on the notions of space in music composition, as well as contemporary music analysis and support preservation. Her musical works include acousmatic music, instrumental and mixed-media and has been presented mainly in Europe. It is also in Europe that has been presented as performer, having won the 1st prize for spatialization and interpretation of acousmatic works – Espace du Son 2004, Belgium. Exemples of work include chamber works like Incertitude, Meditations Intimes, Ombres, dedicated to French pianist Guillaume Coppola and Le souffle d’un nuage. Also mixed works Le fil double , Triformis Mundus and Reflections Intemporelles as well as acousmatic works Sidereal, Voyage au center de la 5ème essence and Strange presences that no longer exist.
