CESEM celebrates two new PhDs – Vera Inácio Cordeniz e André Malhado – in just one day

It was with her thesis ‘A democratisation of Music Teaching – The Full-Time School and Curricular Enrichment: implementation, guidelines and perceptions’ (“Uma democratização do Ensino Musical – A Escola a Tempo Inteiro e o Enriquecimento Curricular: implementação, orientações e perceções”) that Vera Inácio Cordeniz, CESEM’s administrative and financial manager, completed her PhD in Art Education ‘with distinction and praise, unanimously’. This course is run jointly by the University of Porto and the University of Lisbon, through its Faculty of Fine Arts and Faculty of Psychology and Educational Sciences of the University of Porto; Faculty of Fine Arts and Institute of Education of the University of Lisbon. The defence took place on October 9.

On the same afternoon, André Malhado, a member of the Research Group for the Study of Music, Critical Theory and Communication, defended his thesis ‘Audiovisual representations of the cyborg: conceptualisation and musical theory’ (“As representações audiovisuais do ciborgue: conceptualização e teoria musical”), anchored in the field of the sociology of music. André Malhado was supervised by CESEM researcher Paula Gomes-Ribeiro. The now PhD in Music Sciences (variant in Historical Musicology) was approved with ‘very good, unanimously’, the highest mark at NOVA FCSH.

Best wishes for success to them both.
