“One dynasty – two reigns: musical activity between the reigns of King João VI and Emperor Pedro II” I Proposals until March 31

Wishing to mark the bicentenary of the death of King João VI of Portugal and the birth of Emperor Pedro II of Brazil, Caravelas is organising the International Conference “One dynasty – two reigns: musical activity between the reigns of King João VI and Emperor Pedro II”, to take place at the Colégio Almada Negreiros of the NOVA University of Lisbon and the Palace-Convent of Mafra on 8-10 October 2026.

This event seeks to promote reflection on the music of the two sides of the Atlantic Ocean and the circulation and interchange between them. Although centred on the axis Portugal-Brazil in the 19th century, it aims to broaden the scope to include discussion of the interaction between the Luso-Brazilian arena and other areas in Europe, Africa and the Americas, during the colonial and post-colonial periods.

Proposals should be written in Portuguese, Spanish or English and sent between 1 and 31 March 2026 to the e-mail: congressonucleocaravelas@gmail.com.
