Mariana Vieira (CM) awarded honourable mention in the 2025 Musa Prize

The 2025 Musa Prize, dedicated this year to the poetry of Ana Luísa Amaral, was given to Vasco G. R. Martins for his play “Eight Glimpses of the World”. The jury, comprising Amílcar Vasques-Dias, Inés Badalo, and Pedro Costa, also granted two honorable mentions: to Mariana Vieira, a member of the Research Group on Contemporary Music / CESEM, and to Igor Maia. Awarded an honourable mention, the young composer Mariana Vieira used the poem “Black hole: the silence of darkness” to compose “Darkness”.

The three works will be premiered on April 10 by Camila Mandillo (soprano), Luís Rendas Pereira (baritone) and Filipe Gaio Pereira (pianist) at the Projeto: Canção Festival in Porto, and will subsequently be recorded for inclusion in a digital album.

The Musa Prize was created with the aim of recognising musical excellence in contemporary composition within the Western classical tradition and, in this context, promoting the Portuguese language as a vehicle of expression.
