Participation of André Ferreira (EMS) in the Mafra International Organ Festival

As part of the Mafra International Organ Festival, a lecture on “Music for the Six Organs of the Basilica of Mafra” will be given by André Ferreira (Early Music Studies Group) on May 9 at 3.00 pm in the library of the National Palace of Mafra.

The six organs of the Basilica are a world-renowned historical landmark, both for their unique organological ensemble and for the music composed for them between the 18th and 19th centuries. In this lecture, André Ferreira explores the historical repertoire composed at the time for these instruments and its connection to different musical genres, ranging from plainchant to the operas of the São Carlos Theatre.
