Jorge Graça (GEDH) publishes a chapter in collaboration with researchers from INET-md and DigiMedia

“On water: connecting shorelines and communities through sound-based artistic practices“, chapter written by Ana Luísa Veloso, Paulo Maria Rodrigues and Helena Marinho, researchers at INET-md, in collaboration with Jorge Graça (Education and Human Development Group, CESEM) and Hélder Caixinha (DigiMedia), was published in the book OUT: el aula como laboratorio para reimaginar una nueva educación artística desde propuestas inclusivas y creativas(University of Valencia, 2026). 

In this chapter, the authors explore the potential of sound-based artistic practices to promote environmental awareness and a sense of community in coastal contexts. Their discussion draws on the workshop ‘Sons em Deriva: Laboratory of Listening and Sound Creation’, held as part of the ‘SHORES’ project, funded by the Creative Europe programme. The analysis focuses on the processes developed with twogroups of families and children, their interactions with the soundscapes of the Ria de Aveiro, and the collective creation of an ‘imaginary sound map’. Drawing on this experience, the authors discuss thetransformative potential of sound-based creative practices to foster greater ecological awareness and new ways of relating to others and to the world.
