NOVA FCSH presents open lectures on music in childhood, movement, voice, and communication
On October 17 and November 21, NOVA FCSH will host the open lecture series “Music in Childhood: Movement, Voice, and Communication”, an initiative that is part of the “NOVA MAFRA | Open Lectures” project. Aimed at teachers, educators, and others interested in the fields of music, education, and human development, the series offers an interdisciplinary approach to the role of music, voice, body, and listening in the processes of development, communication, and learning.
Over the course of four open classes, organized around two thematic areas (“Tuning of Listening” and “Tuning of Play”), participants will have the opportunity to experience practical and participatory approaches centered on listening, improvisation, voice, movement, and interaction.
The first session takes place on October 17 at the NOVA MAFRA campus (Mafra Palace, South Tower). In the morning, Helena Rodrigues and António Maria Dente will lead the class “The Body’s Alphabet as a Means of Listening”. In the afternoon, the session “Improvisation as a Practice for Refining Listening” explores the relationships between body, voice, breath, improvisation, and listening, drawing inspiration from the Voice&Body methodology and the work developed by Zygmunt Molik.
November 21 will be dedicated to exploring the voice, improvisation, songs, and rhythmic chants in the context of early childhood music education. Ana Isabel Pereira and Adriana Margarida Lopes will lead the sessions “Playing with the Voice and Gibberish” and “Playing with Songs and Rhythmic Chants”.
Coordinated by Helena Rodrigues and Ana Isabel Pereira, the series will issue a certificate of participation and, in accordance with applicable regulations, provide independent accreditation for each module as a Short-Term Training Course (ACD) for elementary and secondary school teachers. Registration runs from September 1 through 30 and can be completed via the Santander Open Academy platform. Participation in the open classes is free of charge.
