Miso Music Portugal and MIC.PT – Portuguese Music Research and Information Centre, in partnership with CESEM – Centre for Music Studies, will present World New Music Magazine #31, 2025, a Portugal-focused edition published by the International Society for Contemporary Music, ISCM, on 19 June 2026, at 18:00, in Auditorium 3 of the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, Lisbon. 

 Hosted by the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, the launch will include a round table moderated by Pedro Boléo, bringing together authors and contributors to the publication around the question: 

“What is new in Portuguese music?” 

Published in the wake of the ISCM World New Music Days 2025, held for the first time in Portugal, this edition brings together essays, reflections and testimonies by composers, performers, researchers and cultural agents. Rather than offering a single overview, it presents a plurality of perspectives on contemporary music creation in Portugal, its recent developments, practices, contexts and international resonances. 

The magazine has been edited by Magnus Bunnskog, editor-in-chief of World New Music Magazine. The partnership with CESEM reflects the strong presence of research and critical reflection within the publication, with contributions from several of its members. 

The round table will feature Ana Telles, António Ferreira, Cláudio de Pina, Filipa Magalhães, Jakub Szczypa, Manuel Pedro Ferreira, Miguel Azguime and Pedro Prista, in a conversation on the artistic, aesthetic, institutional and social questions shaping musical creation in Portugal today. The question “What is new in Portuguese music?” will serve as the guiding thread for discussing changing languages, listening practices, relationships with technology, circulation, memory, and the place of Portuguese music within broader international contexts. 

The bilingual publication, available in PDF format and in a printed edition, was made possible with the financial support of the ISCM, the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation and DGArtes — Portuguese Art’s Council. 

The launch will be both the public presentation of the magazine in Portugal and an opportunity for dialogue between creation, research and critical thought.
