Biography

Arturo de las Casas Escolar is a PhD candidate in Musicology at the University of La Rioja, where he conducts his research under a predoctoral FPU contract. His doctoral dissertation, co-supervised by Teresa Cascudo García-Villaraco and Eva María Méndez Rodríguez, focuses on Baltasar Saldoni’s “Diccionario de efemérides de músicos españoles” and its potential for scholarly exploitation from the perspectives of digital documentation, the Semantic Web, and Digital Humanities.

He holds a degree in Musicology from the Real Conservatorio Superior de Música de Madrid (RCSMM), where he was awarded the End-of-Degree Honor Prize, and he is currently pursuing a Higher Degree in Performance, specializing in Viola da Gamba. He also completed advanced studies in Baroque Violin and earned a Master’s degree in Libraries, Archives, and Digital Continuity from Universidad Carlos III de Madrid, receiving the Extraordinary Master’s Award. His master’s thesis, devoted to the construction of an ontology of the nineteenth-century academic community of the RCSMM, was distinguished with a special mention in the 10th “José López Yepes” Award for the most innovative university project in the field of information and documentation management.

His research lies at the intersection of historical musicology, knowledge representation, network analysis, and digital musical heritage. He has presented papers at international conferences such as DLfM, ICCCM, and ICHLL within the framework of the LexiMus project, and has taken part in knowledge-transfer and specialized training activities, including the delivery of a seminar on the creation of ontologies for the musical domain. In parallel, he maintains an active artistic career as a performer of early music, appearing as a violinist, violist, and viola da gamba player in major auditoriums and heritage venues. He has undertaken specialized training through international courses and festivals and holds a Cambridge B2 certificate in English, in addition to training in the German language.
