Biography

Miguel Henriques artistic career is devoted to celebrate the most relevant works of the pianistic repertoire – some of which still remain less known to the public. His concert programs, covering different styles, from baroque to contemporary, often include works by Bach, Beethoven, Chopin, Janáček, Schubert, Liszt, Tchaikovsky, Scriabin, Shostakovich, Messiaen, Schnittke, Lopes-Graça, and António Pinho Vargas.
More recently, has devoted special attention to the repertoire for chamber orchestra, including the production and performance of different adapted versions of works by J. S. Bach with the Camerata Gareguin Aroutiounian.
Miguel Henriques studied at the Conservatories of Lisbon and Porto and post-graduate at the Tchaikovsky Conservatory in Moscow in Gleb Akselrod’s class. He holds a Masters degree in Piano Performance from the University of Kansas where he worked in the class of Sequeira Costa. Developed complementary studies in the areas of musicology, aesthetics, composition, choral and instrumental conducting.
Since his return to Portugal in 1987 Miguel Henriques is involved in many different music projects as artistic and cultural producer and promoter.
Miguel Henriques is Professor of Piano and Camerata Gareguin Aroutiounian at the Escola Superior de Música de Lisboa, having been elected its Director in 2015 and 2019.
