Pedro Filipe Cunha

Pedro Filipe Cunha is from Porto.

He began his musical studies at the Silva Monteiro Music School, continuing them at the Porto Music Conservatory, where he attended the piano course, led by Professor Arminda Barosa, and completed the supplementary course in Musical Training.

He studied composition with António Augusto Aguiar, Carlos Azevedo, Fernando C. Lapa and Fernando Valente and attended several music pedagogy courses in Portugal, Germany and Italy.

He completed a degree in Music Production and Technologies from the Higher School of Music and Performing Arts and a Master’s degree in Child Studies – specialization in Music Education from the University of Minho. In 2013 he completed his PhD in Education Sciences from the University of Porto with the thesis “Well-Tempered Music in School – Life Narratives in the Construction of the Professionalism of a Music Educator”.

A music teacher and researcher (IDEAFor – FPCE-UP), he has been developing various educational projects in schools and municipalities at diverse educational levels concerning music education (nursery schools, kindergartens, primary and secondary schools, specialized artistic education music schools, and higher education).

He is a guest adjunct professor in the Department of Arts at the School of Education of the Polytechnic Institute of Setúbal. As a trainer accredited by the Scientific-Pedagogical Council for Continuing Education in Pedagogy and Didactics, Music Education, Musical Expression, Music Didactics, and Music Technologies, he has developed a national career as a promoter of active, provocative, and passionate music teaching. He is the author of several articles and essays related to Music Didactics, especially for Kindergarten and 1st Cycle of Basic Education, in scientific journals such as Diálogos com a Arte, the Portuguese Association of Music Education, Investigar em Educação, the Portuguese Society of Educational Sciences, and the Spanish journal “Tendências Pedagógicas”.

In the field of musical composition, he has created original repertoire for children, being the author of numerous children’s songs awarded by the Portuguese Association of Music Education (O Degrau, Canção da Lua, Dia da Criança, O Gato).

He has released three original albums of original themes: “Fá, Lá, Si” (2003), “Música em Grande… Nos Pequenos!” (2006) and “SimSom. Música enCantada” (2014).
