João Francisco Távora é licenciado em Música Antiga pela Escola Superior de Música e Artes do Espetáculo, Porto, na classe do Professor Pedro Sousa Silva. Iniciou os estudos da flauta de bisel na Escola Artística do Conservatório de Música Calouste Gulbenkian, Aveiro (2008/2009) onde teve aulas com Daniela Lousã, Mónica Resende e Jorge Ferreira e onde frequentou workshops e masterclasses com Fernando Paz, Marco Magalhães e António Carrilho. Participou no Curso Internacional de Música Antiga da ESMAE (2018), no “Open Recorder Days Amsterdam” (3ª edição) e no curso “The Recorder in the Renaissance”, orientado por Pedro Sousa Silva. Atualmente, João encontra-se inscrito no Mestrado em Música Antiga na Hochschule für Musik und Theater „Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy“, em Leipzig, na classe do Professor Robert Ehrlich. Colabora com o Ensemble Arte Minima, grupo musical especializado na música renascentista portuguesa, com o qual gravou o seu primeiro disco em dezembro de 2021. Com o mesmo ensemble tem previsto a gravação de mais 3 discos, um com música de Francisco de Santa Maria e os restantes com música de Vicente Lusitano.
