CESEM at the National Library I Documentary description of an estimated 9,000 documents from the Music collections of the BNP

CESEM has assembled a team of specialists, which also includes students and young musicologists at the start of their careers, for the documentary description of an estimated 9,000 documents from the BNP’s Music collections (Musical Manuscripts/Manuscritos Musicais [M.M.] and National Conservatory/Conservatório Nacional [C.N.]).

This project, which will lead to the digitisation of all the musical manuscripts described by the team, follows a contract signed between NOVA University Lisbon and the National Library of Portugal within the scope of the PRR.

Not only because of its size but also because of the relevance of this corpus, it is possible to predict important contributions to Portuguese music of the 18th, 19th and 20th centuries, paving the way for future research.

Among what has already been discovered, the Hymn of the Campolide College, where part of the centre’s activities take place, stands out for its curiosity.
