Concert of Improvisation@2 pianos – McNair/Gapp Duo
Nicholas McNair and Samuel Gapp, from different generations and different countries, have developed their musical skills under very different circumstances. What has brought them together is a profound mutual interest in spontaneous improvisation – that is, where nothing at all is decided in advance of playing. A dialogue is set up between two slightly different modes of musical being, one closer to classical and the other marked by jazz. Under these circumstances relationship becomes more important than fixed content, and the audience is invited to be open to participating in a new listening journey. Whatever they find on the way in the musical experience is an integral part of the event, and just as valid as anyone else’s perspective.
The concert will take place on November 22, between 7.30 pm and 8.30 pm, in the Sala de Concertos – Loja de pianos Fernando Rosado. Admission is free.
Nicholas McNair is a collaborator in the Research Group for the Study of Music, Critical Theory and Communication. More information about the McNair/Gapp Duo here.
