Biography

Described as “an extraordinarily multi-talented American musician and scholar,” Nancy Lee Harper is a classical pianist and educator who has performed and taught on 4 continents and in 29 countries, including at the Juilliard School and Eastman School of Music. She retired from the Universidade de Aveiro, Portugal, in 2013, where she was Head of Piano. She supervised Masters’, Doctor’s, and post-doctoral research. Dr. Harper is also author of more than 250 articles, translated into six languages, and several books on such topics as Iberian music (Manuel de Falla; Portuguese Piano Music), Piano Pedagogy, Music & Medicine, and Bahá’í academics. Her first book, Manuel de Falla: A Bio-bibliography garnered praise: Manuel de Falla: A Bio-Bibliography: “[This] is in every respect an exemplary and remarkable study…The first of its kind devoted to the Spanish composer, this bibliography deserves a wide diffusion among specialized musicologists as well as amateurs.” Louis Jambou Professeur, Directeur UFR Musique et Musicologie Paris-Sorbonne. Of her book, Portuguese Piano Music, Prof. Walter Clark, in Music & Letters, said: “Nancy Lee Harper is a leader among those mapping the terrain.” Nancy is listed in Marquis’ Who’s Who and American Keyboard Artists and was nominated for the Samii-Houseinpour “Excellence in the Arts” Prize (Belgium, 2006). She is the founder of EPTA-Portugal (European Piano Teachers’ Association).

Nancy recently finished recording the complete solo piano works of the American composer, Beryl Rubinstein (1898-1952) and the first volume of solo piano works by British composer, Malcolm Dedman (b. 1948, Toccata Classics, 0649, 2022).
