The creation of a Portuguese opera laboratory especially dedicated to the recovery of works written by Portuguese composers or resident in Portugal is an old dream that is now beginning to take on concrete contours.

Indeed, we have long felt the need to create a structure that would enhance the presentation of works from the dramatic production that so many researchers have taken, over the years, from the depths of countless national and foreign archives and libraries, with the ultimate goal of bring the general public closer to the musical dramatic production that has filled the palaces, manor houses and theaters of our country over the centuries.

In addition to a work of historically informed recovery, the Portuguese Opera Laboratory pursues another and unavoidable objective: considering that the operatic genre is not just a musical genre, but, above all, a theatrical genre, we intend to assume the structure as a forum for the development of an in-depth work, in which the vocal technical requirements of each work do not override the drama of the global discourse, allowing new generations of singers to develop dramatic skills that are still relatively underdeveloped today. – Jenny Silvestre
