3DMUS – Audiovisual Recording of Musical Works in Immersive 3D Format
Abstract
The project consists of recording and filming in audio and 3d video format of a set of musical works in various locations, with the aim of producing totally immersive content that can be enjoyed anywhere with VR goggles. The works selected are all the result of an approach to sound and composition in which the parameter of space was or will be part of the creative process. If the spatial component is part of the integral work, 360º virtual reality is not just a decorative element or a mere curiosity, but the technology that allows the works to be enjoyed as they were conceived.
Since the issue of sound spatialisation in music is an old one, the project doesn’t just focus on contemporary creation, although this constitutes an important part of the corpus of works included in it. The project includes a paradigmatic case of this issue in Portugal – the six organs of the Basílica da Estrela – as well as works by Carlos Marecos, Jaime Reis and António de Sousa Dias, and a sound installation by Carlos Caires. The latter explore the spatial position of the instruments and multichannel sound diffusion.
