Representations of Soundscapes in the discographic works of Egberto Gismonti, from 1969 to 1989
Principal Investigator: Rafael Lopes dos Santos
Abstract
This project investigates the soundscapes represented in the discographic works of Egberto Gismonti, focusing on the period between 1969 and 1989. The research explores different aspects of Brazilian national contexts and identities that, in some way, may be seen as meaningful to the construction of the musical discourse within these albums. For this purpose, an analytical-methodological perspective based on concepts from Kofi Agawu’s musical semiotics and Robert Hatten’s theory of musical gestures is considered relevant. Therefore, this study aims to develop an approach to musical analysis that may be applicable to other research projects, including those related to other composers from different aesthetic currents.
