“Lambertini’s House Music Room: Reading and Reconstitution proposition” by Ana Ester Tavares and Hugo Barreira
04/05/2022 @ 18:00 - 19:00 WEST
Starting from the study of the seven works by José Malhoa, which were ordered for the decoration of the Music Room at Lambertini’s House, being nowadays part of the Music Museum collection (four medallions portraying the composers J.S. Bach, W.A. Mozart, R. Schumann and J. Brahams as well as two large dimension canvas on the north and south walls) and of José Malhoa’s Museum (central medallion), we propose a formal and iconological analysis of these works in the architectural space for which they have been designed, through the reconstitution of the Music Room and its iconological program.
This reconstitution of the room is based on information obtained from the epoch’s photographic records and descriptions, according to a methodology of the image and visual culture analysis, as well as the architectural space, promoting a critical reflection on the place of Music in the private area of one of the greatest Portuguese music figures of his time, who has greatly contributed to the National Music Museum collection, Michel’Angelo Lambertini (1862-1920), marking the celebration of the 160th anniversary of his birth.
