Abstract: Almost half a century after the death of Maria Callas (1923-1977), the myth of the singer persists. In addition to exhibitions, documentaries and biographies, projects involving new media have multiplied, including a virtual duet, a holographic show and a multimedia opera-performance. In this book, I examine the paradox that runs through these projects: on one hand, there is a fascination with the proliferation of copies, avatars and doubles; on the other hand, there is an obsession with the values of the original: authenticity, presence, liveness. After all, in an age marked by the triumph of technical reproducibility, does the aura decline or undergo a metamorphosis? And what does the acceleration of the Callas myth tell us, not only about the artist but also about ourselves and our time?
