Alice Fernandes was born in 2000 in Lisbon. She showed an interest in music from a young age but began her musical studies at the age of 15, on the Free Regime piano course at the D. Dinis Conservatory. In 2021, she completed her degree in Musical Sciences at the Faculty of Social and Human Sciences, where she completed a curricular internship, guided by professor Dr. Rui Pereira Jorge, in ‘Pop / Rock Composition and Production’. In 2023, she completed her master’s degree in Musical Arts at the same institution, where she presented her dissertation “O Som do Silêncio: A influência do movimento folk revival na canção de protesto portuguesa das décadas de 1960 e 1970” (The Sound of Silence: The influence of the folk revival movement on the Portuguese protest song of the 1960s and 1970s), which explored the influence of folk music in Portugal and how this was expressed in the compositions of Portuguese artists, as well as how it made its sociological journey until it reached the ears of these artists. During the master’s degree she also had the opportunity to join the international project Itinerant Musical Composition Classes (IMCC) where she participated in two artistic residencies, one in Bourges (France) and the other in Paris (France). She is also working as a freelance composer and producer in several studios in Lisbon, having already worked with several artists in the Portuguese music industry and on several international projects. In addition, she is also a pianist in projects by emerging Portuguese artists and is the founder of her solo musical project, as Alice. In the future, she intends to combine this activity with musicological research, having already participated in conferences and symposiums where she presented her work, which refers to various aspects of 20th and 21st century music.
