Carlos Reinaldo Guerreiro

Born in 1970, he began his musical studies at the age of eight at the Sociedade Filarmónica Operária Amorense under the guidance of Professor Manuel Barros Seabra, later studying with Maestro António Gonçalves.

At eighteen, he joined the Portuguese Army Band, where he served for 21 years as principal trombone and instructor for music courses. After studying with professors Emidio Coutinho and Hermenegildo Campos, he completed his 8th-grade Trombone diploma at the National Conservatory School of Music in 1996.

He holds a Degree in Orchestral Performance (Trombone) from the Academia Superior de Orquestra, under Professor Stéphane Guiheux; a Degree in Orchestral Conducting under Maestro Jean-Marc Burfin; a Master’s in Music Education from the Lisbon Higher School of Music (ESML); and a PhD in Musical Arts from the NOVA University Lisbon (FCSH).

Between 2000 and 2004, he was the principal trombone of the Lisbon Metropolitan Orchestra, with which he maintained a regular collaboration for 20 years, frequently performing solo recitals and chamber music in Lisbon’s most prominent venues.

Since 2000, he has been a Trombone Professor (teaching repertoire, orchestral excerpts, chamber music, and wind sectionals for the Academic Orchestra) at the National Superior Academy of Orchestra and the Metropolitan Professional School. Until 2022, he also served as the Artistic Director of the Metropolitan Classical Orchestra and the Metropolitan Wind Orchestra. As of that same year, he also joined the teaching staff at the Almada Performing Arts Conservatory.

In 2007, he participated in the RTP 2 television series “Sons da Música” (Sounds of Music) in an episode dedicated to the trombone. As a member of Brass Factory, he recorded a tribute CD to Frank Zappa this year. As a conductor, he has led the Lisbon Metropolitan Orchestra, the Metropolitan Academic Orchestra, the Metropolitan Brass Ensemble, the Metropolitan Wind Orchestra, the Metropolitan Classical Orchestra, the Sintra Chamber Orchestra, the Algarve Orchestra, and the Almada Orchestra (where he is the Artistic Director).

For 14 years, starting in January 1995, he conducted the Sociedade Recreativa Musical Trafariense Band, appearing on radio and television and releasing the album Jazz, Latino & Rock. In 2008, he was awarded the Gold Medal of Cultural Merit by the Almada City Council.
