Biography

Inez Martins Gonçalves graduated in piano from the State University of Ceará, Brazil, a Master of Arts from the University of São Paulo, Brazil and held a double doctorate in History (Federal University of Minas Gerais, Brazil) and Music (Nova School of Social Sciences and Humanities, Lisbon) (co-tutorship). She has been a full professor of the Music Department at the State University of Ceará since 2004 and a professor of the postgraduate course in History, Cultures and Spatiality at the same university. She is a leader/member of the research group on Conducting and Musical Interpretation (IRIM) of the National Council for Scientific and Technological Development (CNPQ), a member of the Patrimusi research group (UFPA-CNPQ, Pará) and of the Center for Studies in Musicology and Musical Heritage of Sergipe (CEMUSE, Sergipe). She was the coordinator of the Music Departament in the 2021-2023 biennium and an elected member of the Council (CEPE) of this university for the 2020-2022 and 2010-2012 biennium. As a conductor, she founded and conducted some groups such as the UECE Wind Orchestra (2006-2012). In 2014, she was assistant conductor to maestro Dario Sotelo at the III Week of Composition for Bands (Coreto Paulista) conducting works for symphonic band in the first world audition. As a guest conductor, she has conducted the UECE Symphony Orchestra, UECE Symphonic Band, the Eleazar de Carvalho Chamber Orchestra, the Tatuí Symphonic Band (São Paulo), the Tatuí Youth Symphonic Orchestra (São Paulo), the José Siqueira Symphonic Band (Paraíba), and the bands and orchestras of the national and international festivals in which she has participated. In 2019, she reactivated the UECE Choir and is currently its principal conductor. She is a member of the National Association for Research and Postgraduate Studies in Music (ANPPOM) and a member of the International Musicology Society (IMS).
