Biography

Joana Teles was born on August 3, 2003, in Abrantes, Santarém. She began her musical journey at the age of 10 at Escola de Artes do Norte Alentejano, in Portalegre, where she spent most of her life. She completed the 8th grade in Flute at the same school in June 2021. Joana participated in several masterclasses for flute students, some of which included instruction from Professors Mariana Moreira and Carla Rodrigues. She also had the opportunity to participate in various Cycles of Workshops on Musical Interpretation, organized by the composer and Professor Luís Neto da Costa, at Escola de Artes do Norte Alentejano. Additionally, she took part in the Nano Músicos Competition for two consecutive years (2019 and 2020), earning 3rd place in the latter edition with the piece “Babel’s Tower” for flute and electronics (performed by the composer). In 2021, Joana began her higher education studies in the Bachelor’s Degree in Musicology at the Faculty of Social and Human Sciences of the Nova University of Lisbon, which she completed in June 2024 with an average grade of 17 (out of 20). During her academic journey, she participated in several projects, including volunteering at Museu Nacional da Música in June 2022, under the supervision of Professor Rui Magno Pinto. Her most significant academic contribution came with the presentation of two distinct projects at the 3rd and 4th Music, Media, and Publics Conferences in 2023, organised by SociMus (CESEM), with a scientific committee led by Professor Paula Gomes Ribeiro and researchers Ana Sofia Malheiro, João Figueiredo Costa, and André Malhado.
