Abstract

The project provided free music tuition, namely the practice of wind instruments and musical training, to more than 80 children and young people living (or studying in school groups) in priority intervention areas of Rua Possidónio da Silva, Rua do Possolo, Pampulha, and Madragoa, which are affected by low-income levels.

The initiative aims to prevent children from being exposed to deviant behaviour (such as drug use, trafficking and early pregnancy) by offering them a positive model of leisure time occupation through an instrument to study at home, theory and instrument lessons to attend to, the opportunity to practice together in classes, rehearsals and concerts. The goal is to provide disadvantaged children and young people with an activity that allows them to value the principles of continuous work, overcoming and joint (artistic) effort, which serves as a methodological tool for strengthening their self-subject and combating their pernicious social exclusion.
