Participation of Luzia Rocha (GMPM) and Rui Magno Pinto (GTCC) in the ‘Notas no Tempo’ Historical Music Conference

The Historical Music Conference ‘Notas no Tempo’ (November 22 and 23) aims to explore the richness and diversity of historical music in Madeira and the Atlantic area. This event brings together academics, musicians and enthusiasts with the purpose of studying, discussing and preserving the musical heritage of this region.

The conference’s goals are to provide a forum for discussing and sharing knowledge about the historical music of the Atlantic area, explore the various facets of Madeira’s music, from its origins to its influence on the Atlantic musical scene, and foster a rich and wide-ranging debate about the challenges and opportunities in musicological research and practice.

In addition to Luzia Aurora Rocha, from the Music in the Modern Period Group (GPMP), and Rui Magno Pinto, from the Research Group for the Study of Music, Critical Theory and Communication, both keynote speakers at the conference, the programme will also include Salwa Castelo-Branco, Professor Emeritus of Ethnomusicology at the Faculty of Social and Human Sciences of Universidade Nova de Lisboa, who will give the opening lecture.

The conference will also be attended by researchers Paulo Esteireiro (GMPM), David Cranmer (GMPM) and Pedro Sousa Silva, from the Early Music Studies Group. See the programme here.
