This thematic volume is dedicated to new studies on Eurico Tomás de Lima as a pianist, composer and pedagogue. It is not, however, limited to his person and aims to bring together current studies that explore relevant issues related to the musical production of composers like Luís de Freitas Branco (1890-1955), Cláudio Carneiro (1895-1963), Armando José Fernandes (1906-1983), Fernando Lopes Graça (1906- 1994), Jorge Croner de Vasconcelos (1910-1974) or Joly Braga Santos (1924-1988). The call for papers for Diacrítica 37.1 aims to prompt critical reflections that will stimulate new knowledge about the roots of modernism in Portugal and the following decades of the Estado Novo period until the exhaustion of tonalism. Contributions that address these and other issues in multidisciplinary approaches are also welcome.
