Sound installations by Carlos Caires in Lisbon and Diogo Alvim in Osaka (CM)
‘Invisible Places’. This is the name of the interactive sound installation by Carlos Caires, composer, and member of CESEM / ESML – IPL (Research Group on Contemporary Music), now showing at the 25th edition of MONSTRA | Lisbon Animation Festival. Until March 30, ‘Invisible Places’ invites participants to awaken and manipulate an immersive sound system through the movements of their hands, creating an immersive dialogue with projections of light, images and sounds. All this is done without leaving the Museum of Natural History and Science, where other CESEM-related activities are taking place. Find out more here.
Diogo Alvim, from the same research group, will also be presenting a sound installation, this time in Osaka, in connection with Expo 2025. ‘Afluente’ is a sound installation for 10 channels and will be displayed at the entrance to the Portuguese Pavilion between April 13 and October 13. The composition explores the relationship between the architecture of Kengo Kuma, who designed the Pavilion, and the theme of the oceans, the motto of this edition. ‘Afluente’ is based on different sound manifestations of water and string instruments whose timbres evoke the different cultural identities of Japan and Portugal.
