
“Águas paradas não movem moinhos”: tribute to José Mário Branco (tour of the sextet 6 VIOLAS)

With the aim of celebrating the music and work of José Mário Branco 6 VIOLAS presents the disc “Águas paradas não movem moinhos”. Conceived and carried out by composer and viola player José Valente, this project establishes an unexpected link between classical music and intervention song to honour and praise the unavoidable legacy of one of the most important musicians in Portuguese music history.
The 6 VIOLAS tour will begin on April 26 (6.30 pm) with a concert at Musibéria in Serpa. On April 28 (6 pm), 6 VIOLAS will head to Lisbon, where they will perform at the Auditorium of the Rectory of the Universidade Nova. This concert will feature Manuel Pedro Ferreira, a researcher at CESEM, one of the organisations supporting this tour. The concert on April 30 (6.30 pm) will occur at Salão Brazil, in Coimbra. The tour ends with a performance in Porto on May 3 (6 pm) at the Almeida Garrett Library Auditorium. At these concerts, it will be possible to hear iconic themes from the singer’s repertoire like “Eu vi este povo a lutar”, “Inquietação” and some surprises.
