CESEM is pleased to announce the presentation of the composer and pianist Amélia Brandão (1897-1983), better known as ‘Tia Amélia’, by her biographer, Jeanne de Castro. The Brazilian author will also visit the Algarve, Porto, Coimbra and Aveiro.

Tia Amélia – O piano e a vida da compositora, a book published by Editora Tipografia Musical, is the result of four years of research into the life of Amélia Brandão. The biography highlights the career of the pianist and composer, a key figure in Brazilian popular music, as well as a reference in challenging social and cultural norms.

This conference is organised by researcher Isabel Pires and the Research Group on Contemporary Music.
