Among the dates to be remembered in the history of Brazilian music, October 16, 1920, records the death of the composer and professor Alberto Nepomuceno of the National Music Institute. To celebrate the legacy he left, in the year that marks the centenary of his death, the UFPel Interdisciplinary Studies in Music Sciences Research Group, CESEM-Polytechnic of Porto and the “Polo Caravelas Brasil” Research Group of PPGM of UFRJ promote a series of events that will take place during the year, among them the Alberto Nepomuceno Symposium and the IV International Symposium on Music and Criticism, in the city of Pelotas, Brazil.
In addition, it is worth mentioning the modern debut of As Uyaras, in its original orchestral version, in a concert that will reconstruct the concert of the Orphão Portuense of 1898, when the work was first presented in that city; his Le miracle de la Semence, a work representative of his modernist engagement; and the editing of the 1st act of the comic opera O Garatuja.

The Research Group “Interdisciplinary Studies in Musical Sciences”, from UFPel, CESEM-ESMAE-P. Porto and UFRJ’s PPGM Research Group “Polo Caravelas Brasil” announce the realization of the International Symposium Alberto Nepomuceno, in online format, at October 15th and 16th, 2020, to mark the centenary of death of this important Brazilian composer.
