On December 6, at 8:30 p.m., the Municipality of Lajes do Pico will hold in the Municipal Auditorium, a tribute to Maestro Manuel Emílio Porto (1935-2012), on the occasion of the 90th anniversary of his birth, and the public presentation of the internet portal with the Maestro’s estate, resulting from the cooperation protocol between Dr. Maria de Jesus Maciel, responsible for the aforementioned estate, and CESEM of FCSH/UNL, with the aim of identifying, cataloging, and studying the collection of this documentation, with a view to its proper description, preservation, and public availability for study by the scientific community in general and the field of Music Sciences in particular, and for the benefit of the Azorean heritage.

The Table of Honour will be composed of the Mayor of Lajes do Pico, Dr. Ana Brum, researcher Zuelma Chaves, representative of CESEM, Professor Artur Goulart de Melo Borges, researcher, writer and personal friend of the Maestro, Dr. Hildeberto Peixoto, music teacher and former conductor of the Lajes do Pico Choral Group (GCLP), and Dr. Maria de Jesus Maciel, the Maestro’s widow, historian, and researcher.
