Study Day – Musical Connections Between Brazil and Portugal: Processes, Identities, and Repertoires in the 20th Century

April 9 @ 09:20 - 13:00 WEST

Free

The present Study Day is part of the activities of the project “Thematic History of Music in Portugal and Brazil”. It aims to gather researchers who have examined the relationships between Brazil and Portugal in the 20th century. In these countries, the 20th century was marked by different political regimes, ideological markers, and distinct narratives about their mutual relations, in which music played a significant role. This event focuses on the study of musical practices that highlight specific social and cultural processes, reflecting on issues such as identity, post-colonialism, gender, repertoires, the role of the media, key figures, performance circuits, music industries, and other relevant topics. Thus, this gathering creates a platform for researchers to present their work, discuss approaches, exchange perspectives, and explore conceptual and methodological issues related to these connections.

This Study Day will be online. Click here to join. The programme can be consulted here.
