Pedro Moreira is Assistant Professor in the Music Department of the School of Arts at the University of Évora (Universidade de Évora), having previously taught as invited professor at various public and private higher education institutions in Portugal, in the areas of Ethnomusicology, Sociology of Music, Popular Music Studies and Research Methodology.
He completed his PhD in Ethnomusicology in 2013 at Universidade Nova de Lisboa, Faculdade de Ciências Sociais e Humanas, and in 2017 his post-doctoral research, both on an FCT grant. He was an integrated researcher at the Institute of Ethnomusicology – Center for Studies in Music and Dance (INET-md), participating in several research projects.
His research interests center on the relationship between music and media/radio in various contexts, focusing in detail on the case of popular music and the Portuguese National Radio in the 1930s and 1940s (the subject of his doctoral thesis), as well as cultural policies and their impact on music production, mediation, and reception in the first years of the Portuguese Authoritarian Regime.
