Tiago Viana de Freitas is a doctoral candidate in musicology at the Universidade Federal do Estado do Rio de Janeiro (UNIRIO), under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Martha Tupinambá de Ulhôa. He holds a master’s degree in music from the Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ) and a bachelor’s degree in trumpet from the Universidade do Estado de Minas Gerais (UEMG). Since 2014, he has been a trumpeter with the Orquestra Sinfônica do Theatro Municipal do Rio de Janeiro. He has participated in performances as a contracted musician for the Orquestra Sinfônica Brasileira, Orquestra Filarmônica de Minas Gerais, Orquestra Villa Lobos, Orquestra Sinfônica de Minas Gerais, Cia Bachiana Brasileira, and Orquestra Filarmônica do Rio de Janeiro, among others. Throughout his professional career, he has also taken on roles as a proponent of artistic and cultural projects. As a researcher, he has been developing work related to the fields of musical performance and historical musicology. Currently, his research focuses on the history of the trumpet in Minas Gerais, Brazil, during the 18th and 19th centuries, with a particular emphasis on events that occurred in the city of Ouro Preto, formerly known as Vila Rica.
