The IconoMus Musical Iconography Database provides open access to a unique corpus of images with musical motifs located in Portugal. It incorporates different artistic media - ephemeral art, tiles, comics, vinyl and/or CD covers, political posters, advertising posters, stage sets, ceramics, drawings, documentaries, sculpture, stucco, engravings, illuminations, illustrations, lithographs, furniture, mosaics, paintings (various techniques), etc. - chronologically dating from the 10th to the 21st centuries. It is made up of three basic tabs: ‘Iconography’, ‘Instruments’ and ‘People/Entities’, with a guided search possible (in the listings) or free (by any keyword). In the ‘Iconography’ tab, visitors can access a basic file with an image, description, cataloguing of musical instruments with their Hornbostel/Sachs and Iconclass classification. On the ‘Instruments’ tab you can directly access all the catalogued instruments, description, study and analysis. On the ‘People/Entities’ tab you can access each record by institutional location (public or private) or by author. The IconoMus database is in a continuous process of cataloguing and growth.
