Author(s):

Cristina Delgado Teixeira

The composer Jorge Peixinho always maintained a personal reflection on his own work and musical trajectory. As a committed musician, he remained attentive to the cultural dynamics and aesthetic debates that characterized the second half of the 20th century. In this book, one can discover a contextualized reading of Jorge Peixinho's place in these debates and dynamics, based on his writings and interviews. The first part traces his critical-pedagogical discourse on Portuguese musical life, a journey that allows us to uncover Jorge Peixinho's awareness of his social role and historical position as a composer, educator, music critic, and performer. The second part offers a perspective on Peixinho's interpretation of Western music and his own music, integrating his thoughts and works into the terrain of debates that inhabit the avant-garde and postmodern aesthetics.
