Biography

Madalena Soveral is Coordinator Professor at the Superior School of Music and Performing Art, Polytechnic Institute of Porto. During her career, Madalena Soveral has focussed on the 20th century repertoire working with a variety of composers and performers, such as the composer Giacinto Scelsi and the ‘Les Percussions de Strasbourg” group. As a pianist, she plawyed, both solo and with orchestra, as well as various of chamber music in Europe, Asia Middle East and South America. She has been a guest at major festivals and has performed in the most prestigious venues in Portugal and abroad, namely  at the festivals of Naples, Santiago de Compostela, Sceaux, Montpellier (Radio France), Mantova (Italy), the UNESCO Twentieth Century Music Festival (Paris), Música Nova (Brasil), the 1st Lisbon Festival of Contemporary Music (TNSC, Lisbon), Flânneries Musicales de Reims, Clerkenwell Festival (London), Encontros de Música Contemporânea of Gulbenkian Foundation (Lisbon), as well at Theatre du Rond-Point and Salle Gaveau (Paris), Theatro Municipal (Rio de Janeiro), Museu de Arte Contemporânea (São Paulo), Cercle Royal Gaulois Artistique et Littéraire (Brussels), and Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecília di Roma. She has recorded more than a dozen albums and recordings, including the full piano works by Schoenberg and Emmanuel Nunes. In 2005 she concluded her Doctorate in Music at the University of Paris 8. Her doctoral dissertation was published by Presse Académiques Francophones (Sarrebrucken, Germany). Researcher at CESEM, Madalena Soveral has published articles in national and international journals. She published various collection of articles for Cambridge Scholar Publishing, and Libreria Musicale Italiana.
