João Silva is a trumpeter, educator, and researcher with a diverse background in music. His eclectic and multifaceted career is particularly focused on the instrument’s contemporary repertoire, having played at some of the most important festivals and venues throughout Europe. In recent years, he has developed a particular interest in music for trumpet and electronics, a genre he has delved into and explored, working together with composers and frequently performing in Portugal and abroad. João Silva is also avidly dedicated to improvisation, participating in various experimental music performances, often combining multimedia elements and multidisciplinary intersections.
Beyond his performance career, João Silva is actively involved in music education and research. He teaches trumpet and conducts workshops and masterclasses, while also pursuing a PhD in Music and Musicology at the University of Évora, focusing on interpretation within the repertoire for solo trumpet and electronics. He holds a Master of Music from the University of Music in Cologne (Germany). João Silva is the founding artistic director of DISRUPÇÃO, a center dedicated to the creation, promotion and dissemination of contemporary music, in its most varied dimensions.
