The International Conference ‘Women of the Cistercian Order: unveiling nunneries and expanding horizons’ will occur online via Zoom from 28 to 31 January. To register, send an e-mail to unveilingnunneries@gmail.com requesting the link to the sessions.

This conference aims to bring together recent and innovative research on Cistercian nunneries, books, scriptoria, libraries, and the materiality of various aspects of monastic life. It also seeks to delve into the lived experiences of nuns, explore female agency within Cistercian convents, and examine the multifaceted connections between books, devotion, and the intellectual life of nuns within the broader context of medieval monasticism.

The event will be attended by several CESEM researchers (Alberto Medina de Seiça, Kristin Hoefener, Manuel Pedro Ferreira and Zuelma Chaves), all from the Early Music Studies Group. Click here to see the book of abstracts.
