Following the precedent set by previous editions, the project Music, Media and Audiences in Portugal – 1974 to the Present, underway at SociMus/CESEM since 2019, is organizing the sixth edition of the Music, Media, and Audiences Conference, which will take place on February 28 in Room B307 of the Avenida de Berna campus at NOVA FCSH. Since its inception, the project’s members have disseminated their research both nationally and internationally, focusing primarily – but not exclusively – on musical reception, sociabilities, and mediations in Portugal.
This edition of the conference will bring together studies that examine music as a cultural, social, and technological phenomenon, exploring festive performativity, the resilience of the independent music market, the evolution of DJing and live streaming, as well as the impact of audiovisual mediation. The program will also feature research on musical creation in theater and cinema, the development of repertoires in contemporary ensembles, and the intersections between musical taste, representation, and identity.
