Biography

Jorge Martins Rosa (Lisbon, 1972) holds a PhD in Communication Sciences from Universidade NOVA de Lisboa (2007). Associate professor in the Communication Sciences Department of NOVA FCSH, teaching the postgraduate seminars «Cyberculture» and «Pop Culture», besides «Cultural Theory» at the undergraduate level. Researcher at CESEM: Centre for Music Studies. National coordinator of the Erasmus Mundus Joint Master Degree in Transition, Innovation and Sustainability Environments (European consortium led by University for Continuing Education Krems, Austria). After a master’s dissertation on videogames, completed a PhD on the connections between Philip K. Dick and the discourse of cyberculture. Principal Investigator of the funded research projects “Fiction and the Roots of Cyberculture” (2010-2012), and “Political Interest Networks in Facebook Portugal” (2018-2022). Researches in the fields of cyberculture, digital media and pop culture. In 2008, was a member of the evaluationg committee of DGArtes for the funding of projects in Digital Arts. Is, since 2018, an associate of Karnart: Creation and Production of Artistic Objects. In the music field, develops the experimental bedroom pop project Fixing the Sunbeam Toasters.
