Marta Domingues (b. 2000) is a composer.
She completed a Master’s degree in Composition at the Escola Superior de Música de Lisboa, under the supervision of composers Jaime Reis and Annette Vande Gorne, with whom she also studied in Brussels. She also holds a Master’s degree in Music Education from the same institution. She is currently a PhD candidate at the Faculty of Fine Arts, University of Lisbon.
Her catalogue includes electroacoustic, mixed, and instrumental works, both solo and for various ensembles. In her music, she seeks expressive connections in the energetic traces of sound and in its reciprocal relationship with gesture and space.
Her music has been presented in contexts such as DME / Lisboa Incomum, Música Viva Festival / Oculto d’Ajuda, Aveiro Síntese, BoCA – Biennial of Contemporary Arts at the Teatro Nacional de São Carlos, Teatro do Bairro Alto, and the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation; Sonorities Festival Belfast (Belfast, Northern Ireland), Musiques & Recherches/ L’Espace du Son (Brussels, BE), International Confederation of Electroacoustic Music (Bourges, FR), Monaco Electroacoustic Festival, Young Euro Classic (Berlin, DE), Echoes Around Me (Vienna, AT), Soundspaces (Malmö, SE), the Nicosia Municipal Theatre (CY), Achtelton Festival (Hitzacker, DE), Contemporary Insights (Leipzig, DE), Sound Junction Festival (Sheffield, UK), Mixtur Festival (Barcelona, ES), and Vila 31 × Art Explora (Tirana, AL), among others.
She received an Honourable Mention in the Métamorphoses Competition 2020 (BE), was awarded in the Young Lioness of Acousmatic Music Competition (AT), and her piece “Aspen Tree”, for accordion and electronics, was recommended in the Sub-30 category at the 69th International Rostrum of Composers (NL).
She received a creation grant from the Annette Vande Gorne Foundation for an acousmatic work during an artistic residency at the studios of Musiques & Recherches (BE) in August 2024. She has collaborated with musicians such as Pedro do Carmo, Francisco Cipriano, and Ricardo Pires, ensembles such as Art’Ventus Quintet, Sond’Ar‑Te Electric Ensemble, Lakt Ensemble, Vertixe Sonora Ensemble, Nada Contra Ensemble, and orchestras such as the Jovem Orquestra Portuguesa and Orquestra Geração.
Her music is published by Influx / Musiques & Recherches and DME / Lisboa Incomum editions. In 2024, her piece “sowing snow in cone pots” was released on the album “When You Hear Hoofbeats, Think Horses, Not Zebras” by Nada Contra Ensemble.
She collaborated in the organisation of the Projecto DME and Lisboa Incomum between 2020 and 2024.
