CESEM participation in the 5th MUSAM Congress (Valladolid, Spain)

The 5th MUSAM Congress of the Spanish Society of Musicology will take place between 2 and 4 October in Valladolid. Among the scientific committee of the congress are CESEM researchers David Cranmer and Ana Maria Liberal, both from the Music in the Modern Period Group.

Starting with David Cranmer, he will be responsible for a ‘ponencia’ (invited paper) entitled “Camille Saint-Saëns no Brasil – com um toque ibérico” and for a communication with music, together with Alejandro Reyes Lucero (Inet-MD), entitled “Percepciones de identidad(es) musical(es) ibérica(s) por dentro y por fuera”. Ana Maria Liberal will lead the presentation “La recepción de Pablo Casals en América del Sur: análisis de sus giras de 1903 y 1904”.

Among the other researchers is Gabriel Vieira Coronas (MMP), who will present “A vida fonográfica e o legado artístico do músico brasileiro Geraldo Magalhães entre Brasil, Argentina e Portugal”. Caio Priori-dos-Santos (Research Group for the Study of Music, Critical Theory and Communication) will also be present at the conference with the paper “Disputas simbólicas y legitimación musical nacional: la expresión «guitarra brasileña» (violão brasileiro) en las publicaciones periódicas brasileñas (1895-1928)”.

In turn, researcher Inez Martins Gonçalves (MMP) will talk about the “Conexão Itália – América do Sul: mercado cultural transatlântico e a circulação de companhias, músicos e repertório no século XIX”. Her panel will also feature Luciano Botelho da Silva (MMP) and the presentation “Companhia Taveira: um exemplo português de hibridismo nos teatros do Rio de Janeiro e de São Paulo durante a viragem para o século XX”.
