Paula Gomes-Ribeiro (CTC / SociMus) participates in the ‘European Congress on Disinformation and Fact-Checking’
Paula Gomes-Ribeiro (NOVA FCSH / CESEM) will take part in the ‘European Congress on Disinformation and Fact-Checking – Beyond 2025: Emerging Threats and Solutions in the Global Information Ecosystem’, organised by UC3M MediaLab (Universidad Carlos III de Madrid). The congress will be held in a hybrid format (Madrid and online) on 29 and 30 October.
In her paper, titled Re-signifying Protest: Grândola, Bella Ciao and the Politics of Musical Memes, the member of the Research Group for the Study of Music, Critical Theory and Communication / SociMus – Advanced Studies in the Sociology of Music Cluster examines how music and sound can operate as vectors of disinformation in the contemporary media ecosystem, drawing on a case study from TikTok. The presentation explores the affective and ideological reconfigurations of protest songs, showing how digital circulation reshapes listening and political meaning.
