Communication by Julia Durand (CTC) on the 10th Anniversary of the Paris Agreement

December 12, 2015 marks the adoption of the Paris Agreement — a treaty that seeks to guide states in their actions to mitigate and adapt to climate change. Ten years later, the Paris Agreement has become a part of everyday political discourse, embodying narratives of hope, but also of fear; of instinctive trust in knowledge, but also of doubts in science. In this context of challenges to science, this event tackles climate science, the climate of science, and the right to science; the climate of (and in) politics, and the use of science in political discourse; and, above all, climate change as an example of the need to improve ties between science and the wider public.

The presentations (which address questions posed by secondary school students) include a talk by Júlia Durand (Research Group for the Study of Music, Critical Theory and Communication) on music, media and climate misinformation. The conference, organised by the Young Scientists Seminar (SJC) of the Lisbon Academy of Sciences (ACL), will take place at the ACL on December 12 at 3 p.m. and will be broadcast online.
