Biography

Ana Guedes is a multidisciplinary artist, lives and works between the Netherlands and Portugal. In her artistic practice, examines the role of the sonic body of history and its material substance through archives, images and artefacts and their interplay in shaping personal and collective historical narratives. A body of works that propose different modes of listening weaved in a succession of linked conceptual branches. Chapters, that frame the archive of a fragmented family history, as a lens through which to question political, social and environmental entanglements of Colonial, Post-Colonial narratives.

Completed an MMus Artistic Research at the Royal Conservatoire and the Royal Academy of Art in The Hague (2016), was artist in residence in the Jan Van Eyck Academy in Maastricht (2019), Scale travels – Iberian International Nanotechnology Laboratory & Gnration, Braga, Portugal and the EKWC, The Netherlands in (2024). Guedes was nominated for the Hartwig Foundation Production|Collection Fund, Amsterdam (2021), participated in the XVIII Biennial de Cuenca and was awarded the Piedra de Sal prize, Ecuador (2018), awarded an honourable mention in the New Artists Award 2017, EDP Foundation – MAAT Museum in Lisbon (2017). Her works, performances and installations have been shown at Botschaft Berlin-Camões Berlin|MAAT Museum curatorship, Germany (2019), Frecuencia Singular Plural, Centro-Centro Madrid, Spain (2019), NEXT Arts Festival in Kortrijk, Belgium (2019) , Sonic Dawn – Homo Novus Festival in Riga, Latvia (2019) and November Music Festival in s’Hertogenbosch, The Netherlands (2019).
