Biography

Self-taught in the field of music since she was a child, Marta Atanásio Cancela decided to dedicate herself to Musicology in 2022, finding herself in the 3rd year of her degree in ‘Musical Sciences’ at Universidade Nova de Lisboa (NOVA/FCSH) also studying singing since 2023, at the Nossa Senhora de Fátima Music School, in Lisbon, with António Ramos. She is an artist, singer and composer, having attended the ‘Composition and Musical Production in Pop / Rock Music’ internship at the Centre for The Study of The Sociology and Aesthetics of Music (CESEM) in 2024, with PhD professor Rui Pereira Jorge. Her research interests relate to contemporary music, film studies, philosophy and literature, with a focus on issues of intermediality, and she is currently collaborating with CESEM through an Initiation Scholarship Research (BII) in the scientific area of ​​Philosophy of Music, within the scope of the Strategic Project – Base Financing of the Center for Studies in Sociology and Musical Aesthetics (UIDB/00693/2020), under the guidance of PhD professor João Pedro Cachopo.
