Biography

Ricardo Mestre is a PhD student in Digital Media Arts at the University of the Algarve and Universidade Aberta, a Master in Music Education at NOVA FCSH and a postgraduate specialist in Advanced Studies in Digital Media Arts (Ualg/Aberta), Information and Communication Technologies (Instituto Piaget), Pedagogical Use of ICT (Politécnico de Leiria) and Special Education (Instituto Piaget). He began his musical career in 2012 as a singer and has taken part in various musical projects in partnership with local councils in the educational, cultural and social spheres. He studied trumpet and transverse flute in the band of the Sociedade Filarmónica União Seixalense, and singing at the Emotion Vocal Academy with teacher Manuel Rebelo, jazz piano at the Luís-Villas Boas School with teacher Daniel Bernardes, jazz trumpet with teacher Cláudio da Silva, conducting with conductor Dr Gonçalo Lourenço and Armindo Pereira Luís, conductor of the National Republican Guard band, and composition with Fernando Ortega, associate composer of Ennio Morricone. In 2019 he signed a contract with Metrosonic Records and released his first original single and his first EP in 2022, entitled ‘Between Words and Sound’, fusing pop and jazz in a nostalgic atmosphere of pure reality and fantasy, with the support of several national radio stations. He is currently a teacher of Music Education and Information and Communication Technologies in the 1st, 2nd and 3rd cycles of public and private primary education, conductor of the Zana Batuta orchestra and choir since 2023, and a researcher at the Centre for Research in Art and Communication (CIAC) and CESEM, focusing his work on the study of digital media art and the psychology of music.
