PreservArt — Multidimensional Approach to Preservation of Historical Audio Recordings: A Study of Chemical and Microbiological Degradation Mechanisms

PreservArt — Multidimensional Approach to Preservation of Historical Audio Recordings: A Study of Chemical and Microbiological Degradation Mechanisms

Principal Investigator: Isabel Pires

Abstract

Based on an in-deep study of two Portuguese audio tape collections, PreservArt will correlate carrier material, mechanical issues, audio quality, chemical degradation, and microbiological contamination, and will consolidate terminology and existing SWO while proposing an effective and scalable relational database. PreservArt will develop an innovative diagnostic and documentation tool to assist professionals in historical audio preservation.
